SLAC Tours

Tours of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center begin with a presentation describing the research at this national research facility funded by the US Department of Energy and managed by Stanford University.

Exact stops vary as operations in the experimental area permit; however, highlights include the Klystron Gallery and the SLD detector at the Collider Experimental Hall.

The orientation covers the physical site as well as some history of the laboratory facilities. Following a short talk, the bus will transport the group to research area of the lab where visitors will see the experimental apparatus and describe current research efforts. Wear flat, comfortable shoes and you are welcome to bring your camera.

San Francisco City Tour

Discover America's most picturesque and culturally diverse city. Pass by the Civic Center, the new Main Library, Opera House, Davies Symphony Hall and Old Mission Dolores, the birthplace of the City. Stop atop Twin Peaks for a panoramic view of the city. Drive through the lush Golden Gate Park and stop to visit the elegant Japanese Tea Garden.

Drive along the Pacific Ocean and stop at the Cliff House to enjoy Seal Rock and the ocean air. Continue down Presidio Avenue and view the former Presidio Army Base on either side (now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation area). Cross the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge and stop at Vista Point North to enjoy a breathtaking view of the San Francisco Bay, city skyline, Angel Island and Alcatraz Island.

Monterey Bay Aquarium, Carmel and 17 Mile Drive Tour

Enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, through the seaside town of Santa Cruz. Continue into the Salinas Valley to see the "artichoke capital of the world" then arrive in scenic Monterey at Steinbeck's Cannery Row. Visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium (admission included). The undersea world of Monterey Bay is showcased in stunning detail at the newest and largest aquarium in the nation. The Monterey Bay Aquarium explores the facts, myths and mysteries of this spectacular marine region through innovative galleries and exhibits.

See more than 5,000 creatures, from massive sharks to playful sea otters, from giant octopuses to fierce wolf-eels. Enjoy time on your own for lunch and shopping in the Cannery Row area. Follow the coast through Pacific Grove to 17 Mile Drive where you will visit Seal Rock and the legendary Lone Cypress. Spend time in storybook Carmel with its unique boutiques, cafes and charming cottage homes. Pass by one of the oldest Spanish Missions in the country.

Silicon Valley Tour

We begin our day discovering the historic city of San Jose and its relevancy to the computer industry. Upon arrival at the Intel Museum, you will be treated to a guided walking tour with Intel employees. Learn about the fascinating history of Intel and explore their interactive display.

Then its off to see more of this world-famous region before our visit to the Tech Museum. Voted one of the top 10 attractions in the U.S., the Tech Museum offers hands-on and interactive exhibits.
